Why I stay home in the U.S. during holidays

I love staying home during the holidays. My friends can’t figure this out. They say I should be out shopping and hopping from mall to mall. After all, after Thanksgiving, shopping malls all across the United States really bloom for the holiday. We are, of course, talking about Santa Claus, Christmas displays, Christmas music, faux winter wonderlands all over the country, the whole nine yards I can only say ‘no thanks’ to all this. I’ve never been big on hopping in my car so I can get stuck on the highway will thousands of other holiday celebrants, rushing into malls cheek to jowl with others looking to suck in the ‘essence of the season,’ or listening to the same tired holiday songs over and over again If you say I am jaded, I can live with that. Remember, ‘jaded’ to you, is ‘being real’ to others.

I might come off as pessimistic or skeptical but the older I get, the less important surface appearances become to me. I just have less and less tolerance for phony surface appearances. Substance is very important to me now. And that is what grates me about the way holidays are celebrated in the USA now. There’s just something very phony and sad about the all the plastic Santas, the black Thursday crushing crowds, the endless sales and holiday hype. To my eyes, it’s all about selling. The holiday season, for all its festive colors and uniform cheer, is just one giant excuse to lift retailers into the black. Disappointing. Before you call me a grinch, please open a book and read up on how the holidays were celebrated in the 1700s and earlier. Back in those days, the holidays were a special time of gift-giving and community celebration because the rest of the year had been hard. The rest of the year saw people sowing, cultivating, fertilizing, and otherwise working hard(and investing in gold what’s left for savings). When the fall comes, it’s all about harvesting the fruits of your labor. There was a genuine sense of achievement and community there. It wasn’t a time to be milked for profits-like now. Back then, the holiday cheer people displayed was genuine since you can sense the relief people had, and they looked forward to the relaxation the winter brings to contemplate their plans for the next year. My main plan is to speed up my computer though, it’s becoming slower and slower(which I feel is done on purpose by PC manufacturers). Searching on Google quickly resulted in a few good tips(like on http://www.speed-up-pc.org but giftofspeed.com is even better like how to optimize css delivery) It can’t get anymore free than that.

I stay home in the holidays because I celebrate the season the way it’s supposed to be celebrated-focusing on gratitude, contemplating what went right, and figuring out how to learn from challenges. You don’t need a trip to the mall for that.

How I lost 10 pounds last month

Regardless of how many diet books or health and fitness fads you follow, they can never change the classic formula for weight loss. In fact, this formula has never changed since the dawn of time. The rules of weight loss were as true thousands of years ago as they are now. They will never change. They are set in stone. What is the secret to weight loss? Simple. You need to educate yourself. How can you do this? Well, there are several decent resources on the internet (like this decent wlzine site). Reading these resources you come to the conclusion that all you need to lose weight is to experience negative calorie gain every day. That’s all there is to it. In other words, lose calories, and you lose weight. There are only three ways to do it. First, you can eat less and burn the same amount of calories as you normally do. Second, you can eat the same amount of food as you normally do but burn more calories per day. The third and final scenario is also the most ideal for quick weight loss: eat less food and work out more. The latter approach allows you to burn both ends of the weight loss candle so the pounds just slide off you. Despite the simplicity of all the above items, people still struggle to lose weight because intellectually understanding something doesn’t automatically translate to actually being able, willing, and eager to try it. We all get addicted to a certain comfort zone and doing things. That’s the real problem with weight loss, most people can’t past the fact that they have to leave their comfort zones. Here’s how I did it.

Self-assessment
As mentioned above, there are three ways to lose weight. However, most people can’t do all three. Most people are comfortable with, if they were to go through it at all, only one or two of the weight loss methods above. When I decided to lose weight, I started by doing a self-assessment and honestly identified my preferences and tried to figure out which one of the methods above would work for me given my own eating and sleeping patterns. This stage is crucial and many people fail it because they are in denial. They get the idea in their head that they are more proactive than they really are. As a result, they end up picking a method that doesn’t fit them. I have no illusions. I know that burning calories at the gym is too much effort for me. I decided to eat fewer calories while maintaining the same level of calorie burning. Another way is to eat the right foods. For example proteins as in hard boiled eggs (as on http://eggtutor.com/how-to-hard-boil-eggs/) is a great way to eat healthy foods while still getting the right nutrients to lose weight.

Pick the appropriate implementation
After deciding on the less calorie intake route, the next step is implementation. I had two choices: I can either eat smaller portions for my three meals for the day or I can use the more drastic step of skipping a meal. I chose to skip a meal because this is easier to monitor. Portion control is no fun because you have to shave off servings throughout the day, appetite suppressants (as found on certain sites help too. Appetite suppressants are good as well. This is so easy to cheat and I don’t want to cheat-I wanted a real solution instead. After deciding which meal to skip, I had to decide on which meal to skip. I know that the body’s metabolism drops in the afternoon and continues to drop throughout the night. If I didn’t eat any calories at night, this means I’ll have a net negative calorie intake during my sleeping hours. I decided to skip dinners. The results were awesome. Since my body doesn’t have extra calories at night, it burns my stored fat for energy. The more fat burned, the lighter I get. I still gotta find a how to make your hair grow faster though, because I have a serious baldness issues ;-)
